5 Chapbook] Old Mother Hubbard and Her Dog: Two Copies
Banbury J.G. Rusher 1830 Softcover Very Good
This pair of chapbooks provide an interesting view into the process of bookbinding in the early 19th century. This is a set of identical copies of "Old Mother Hubbard and Her Dog" except one has been opened, sewn and hand colored while the other has not and, aside from being folded, remains in its original state after printing. It can be unfolded to examine the full sheet, printed on both sides. There are a total of 19 woodcuts illustrating the text. The unopened copy is in excellent condition, with just a tiny chip on the margin of the of one leaf. The finished copy is irregularly trimmed at the margins, resulting in the loss of a few page numbers, the stitching is crudely executed, there is some soiling and a 2.5" tear on the cover. No date, about 1830. 48875
